Steven Holl is a teaching member of Columbia University where he has been teaching since 1981. In July 2001, Time Magazine named Steven Holl the best American architect for "buildings that satisfy the spirit and the eye", and more recently received the medal of oro AIA 2012 and the Jencks Award 2010 of the RIBA. Other awards include the first artistic prize of the BBVA Frontiers of Knowledge Awards Foundation (2008), Honorary Fellow of the Royal Institute of British Architects (2003), the Cooper Hewitt National Design Award in Architecture of the Smithsonian Institute (2002), the Great Medaille of Or (2001), the prestigious Alvar Aalto medal (1998), the Arnold W. Brunner Award in Architecture from the American Academy of Arts and Letters and the New York American.
