He was born in Prague in 1949 and studied as his local School of Applied Arts. In 1968 he moved to Germany and graduated at Hamburg University. In 1979 he obtained his master''s degree in architecture at Delft University. In 1983 he moved to Amsterdam and opened his own design studio. He works as an architect and designer. He can be described as an original interpreter of contemporary baroque. His projects range from furnishings to lighting and fancy goods, all characterised by a naturalistic abundance of shapes. He was appointed Knight of the Order Arts and Letters by the French government. He has had numerous exhibitions all over the world. His exuberant design has breathed new life into the Czech craft of glass-making.
